Major Concern Are Rates July 06
Jack: I would only be interested in continuing membership of the Association if it decides to become more active on the issue of improving our rating system. Last night, there was a report on WIN TV about the Baw Baw Shire decision to increase the agricultural rate (effectively 25% increase). In the report, a commentator (I think from the VFF) stated that there needed to be a statewide rating system so as to remove the inequities that currently exist between shires. It makes sense. It is not fair that your neighbor could be paying a different rate because they are living in another shire. Also, the inequity between country and rural rates needs urgent readjustment. I am wondering why the Association did not make rates an issue at the last Council elections. Regards Jane
