IS IT NOW TIME ?
With the States instigating legal challenges to the Federal Governments Industrial Relations Legislation it brings the moment closer for Australians to consider the removal of one tier of Government, after all for a nation of 20 million, we are grossly over governed. Currently we have Federal, State and Local Government, all feeding out of the same trough, we are faced with the situation of three costs for the same issue, Three people to do the same job, take transport, Federal - The Minister for Transport, State - Batchelor Local Government – Transport Officers. Three people doing basically the same thing. If we lost Batchelor out of this equation I don’t think anyone would notice, not even Batchelor, Maybe we could get a better deal from Canberra, the prospect of Road & Rail projects coming in on time on budget and affordable, it just seems that instead of working for all citizens they only work for themselves and their own political futures. Don’t think this only applies to Labor State Governments, Liberal / Labor they are all the same at State level, an incumbrance that Australians can ill afford. Just consider the money to be saved in salaries, vehicles, perks, rorts overseas jaunts etc. We could cut fuel costs, get our hospitals under control, cut out the cost of State elections, cut the number of bureaucratic salaries, all this and the States would not be out of pocket ever . It can be done, a prime example is Britain, large councils with more grass roots control and more responsibilities, run by paid full time councillors, councils that are responsible to the Prime Minister of the country.
