We are continuously inquiring about common or city-specific issues about local government matters, including community engagement and relationships.
The inquiry projects we have undertaken are:
- May 30, 2012 – Monash Council’s Strategic Resource Plan & 2012-13 annual budgets review – We reviewed the draft budgets and cannot conclude the material certainty of the budgets and hence cannot understand the rationale for annual rate hikes of 6% over the next 4 years. We submitted the budgets review report to Monash on 28 May and awaited for answers to over 80 questions to continue the review. The case’s timeline events and outcomes are summarized in this page.
- May 2012 – Local Government Financial Management Accountability & Rating Practices – which we have provided inputs to a current Auditor General’s audit of rating practices in councils. A Press Release has been issued to highlight the major concerns discovered in the review of several councils’ financial management and rating practices. A recent April 2012 audit report on council’s performance reporting practices is currently available on the VAGO webpage and the issues reported also impact rate pricing and confirm some of our investigation findings. We would be sharing this review report with the State Minister of Local Government in due course.
